Total Hours: 9 (1-hr break)

Workshop Description: This workshop teaches students hands-on engineering techniques that will give the students practical skills needed in order to obtain employment in today’s live music venues. The students learn the foundations in live mixing consoles, microphones, monitors, DI boxes and much more. The small workshop and student to instructor ratio ensure the time needed to order to prepare for the world of professional live sound engineering.

Workshop Learning Outcomes:

Successful completion of this workshop will enable the student to:

  • Identify important elements within live sound engineering, including the identification of the types of sounds, acoustical environments and how they work in a professional mix.
  • Build a high-quality mix using analog and digital mixing consoles and basic PA systems.
  • Apply logistical and managerial techniques to help manage equipment, setup teams, road crews and venues.
  • Use microphone technique, equalization, effects, and dynamics.
